Manage the development and implementation process of a specific company product involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing products. Plan and direct schedules and monitor budget/spending. Monitor the project from initiation through delivery. Organize the interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget constraints. Assign and monitor work of systems analysis and program staff, providing technical support and direction.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex, needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 5 years of project management, product design or related experience preferred.

This role is available on the *OCI Data Science *service team. We are addressing exciting challenges at the intersection of data science and cutting-edge infrastructure. We are building a cloud service for data scientists, machine learning engineers and software engineers to help them every step of the way in their machine learning development and deployment lifecycle. Our product vision includes interactive notebooks, distributed machine learning on CPU/GPU supporting wide variety of ML algorithms/libraries, distributed model serving and robust monitoring and analytics of ML models.
We are specifically looking for a Technical Program Manager to join the OCI Data Science service team. You will work closely with product and engineering counterparts and be responsible for managing complex, cross-organizational programs that impact delivery and operations of the OCI Data Science service.
The role of the TPM differs materially from that of a project manager and a program manager. A TPM is able to drive issues beyond what a traditional program manager can do due to deeper technical skills and expertise. Similarly, a TPM can drive projects in more depth vs. a traditional program manager. A TPM possesses skills of that of a program manager, project manager with technical expertise that is relevant to the service. In part a TPM allows a service lead to scale and extend their reach.
What You’ll Do
Define and manage programs and processes for software development, operations, and customer support.
Take ownership and drive continuous improvement of ongoing service team programs such as the on-call program, service operations bar, release scheduling.
Apply project management best practices to ad hoc projects ranging from new feature development to compliance audits
Help drive the scrum and other operational practices of the team effectively to support production cloud services, including creating and maintaining comprehensive project execution related metrics, dashboards and other documentation.
Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Support, and other key stakeholders to define and deliver complex programs despite competing priorities by having the ability to influence roadmaps and priorities.
o Engage with the Oracle cloud infrastructure platform and shared services teams to ensure seamless integration.
o Engage with the platform and corporate architecture and security teams and assist the team in ensuring compliance as well as raise the bar with necessary standards and architecture patterns in terms of the cloud service overall architecture including high availability, disaster recovery, multi-tenancy management, replication etc.
o Identify intra-team issues and drives them to resolution autonomously; identify and work with key stakeholders to drive issues to resolution.
o Build strong relationships across teams to become a force multiplier.
- Represent the product/team up to the Senior Director level independently and at a higher level with appropriate coaching.
o Be the most knowledgeable person in the team about the execution, the trade-offs and the whys behind them.
o Ability to explain your team's analyses and recommendations to leadership while discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers and product managers.
- Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in response to changing or ambiguous situations, directing changes through appropriate review and approval mechanisms.
3-5 years of experience in developing and operating enterprise programs, ideally having experience driving large infrastructure projects.
Display a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically.
Possess a technology background that enables you to understand the complexities of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Possess maturity, judgment, negotiation/influence skills, analytical skills, and leadership skills.
Have the proven ability to work well with product and engineering teams to establish and maintain our roadmap, set appropriate expectations and ensure our product and services meet our high operational excellence standards.
Hands-on experience with Machine Learning/AI is preferred, but not required.
Have the ability to represent the team and product to all levels within the company and to ancillary support groups.
Be able to discuss a a hosted SaaS or Cloud program you led. Be ready to describe your role and what was put in place. Describe how the program was measured and describe the outcomes of the project – what was the impact of the program on the company and customers. Describe the full cycle – what went wrong and what successes you experienced.
Have the expertise to manage complex programs spanning across multiple functions\teams.
Strong knowledge of and implementation experience with various project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
Have experience with continuous improvement methods or Kaizen processes.
Possess strong verbal, written communication skills and be detailed oriented.
Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and be willing to adjust to changing priorities while maintaining a can-do attitude.
Be a self-starter and can work independently.
- Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science or Engineering) plus 3-5 years of work experience in related industry or equivalent.
