DuPont Process Engineer (Automation & Process Control) in Moncks Corner, South Carolina
This Automation & Process Control Engineer (A&PC) will provide automation and process
control technical services to the businesses on site in support of top line growth, asset effectiveness improvement programs and capital projects. Apply engineering principles and knowledge to support the development, implementation, commissioning and validation of the successful operation of applications and solutions. Work on project teams and with full service design contractors to realize the objectives of technical programs and projects involving automation and process control technology.
This position provides technical expertise and support for the operation, maintenance and continuous
improvement of the site's automation and process control infrastructure.
Work closely with Site and Unit Leadership, Technical/Manufacturing Resources and Operator/Mechanics to meet the business, site and user needs and priorities.
Provide process control technical support for various technologies including:
Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
Honeywell Experion® PKS
Continuous and sequence batch operation
ABB Infi-90 / Symphony+ DCS
Symphony+ (SPE) Engineering Tools
Continuous and sequence batch operations
AspenTech IP.21 Process Data Historian
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
ControlLogix and MicroLogix
PanelView and Factory Talk HMI
Rockwell Variable Frequency Drives
Various communication interfaces including:
Primarily used to interface DCS to intelligent MCC’s
Various OPC interfaces
Loss in weight feeders
Serve as a team member on future product expansions under consideration for the Cooper River Site.
Identify, develop the scope, and lead minor and medium capital improvement automation projects.
This position provides guidance for the management of the DCS systems, hardware, networks, control configuration, graphics, documentation, simulator, backups, procedures, and training to enable stable and efficient control of the process.
Designs and commissions control systems by configuring/developing DCS software
Automates and manages existing automation of process functions
Develops DCS graphics that enable efficient technician response and knowledge of process operation.
Provides control systems input into project development and design schedules.
Ensures that the DCS software management is adequate and applied to achieve the site’s goals.
Provides programming support and commission new instrumentation, basic administration of DCS systems including monitoring and upkeep of applications.
Performs and coordinates the DCS system monitoring, system file backups, spare parts inventory, data collection, and analysis.
Acts as a resource for operations and maintenance on procedures, training and standards.
Coaches teams and individuals on DCS related tasks and activities.
Participates in and leads DCS and related reviews and projects as required.
Participates with investigations of process control incidents and ensures follow-up actions are completed to prevent recurrences.
Performs job in a way that supports the site’s High Performance Work System (HPWS)/empowered team organizational model.
Ensures compliance to Process Safety Management (PSM) practices, such as Alarm Management and Safety Interlock System programs, Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA) as applicable to the Cooper River processes.
Assists in developing and achieving control system goals and ensures tasks are completed.
Member of a team that provides support, as needed, to control systems across the site for 24 hours a day/7 days a week operations. Assignment will require on-call support on nights and weekends to meet business needs.
Occasional travel (<5% of time) will be required for training or sharing technology with other US and global Protection Technologies sites.
Electrical Engineering degree from ABET-accredited university and subsequent experience to compliment backgrounds of existing resources is preferred.
Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from ABET-accredited university or related technical degree with process control emphasis will also be considered.
Legal right to work in the US without restriction (Green Card or Citizenship)
Other Desired Experience:
Strong track record implementing, improving, and supporting Process Control systems, preferably including experience with Honeywell Experion or ABB Infi-90.
Experience with batch (ISA88) and continuous process control schemes
Experience in troubleshooting the operation of instruments, measurements, analyzers and/or control valves
Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and high hazard chemical process operations
Experience in Manufacturing 4.0
Able to troubleshoot problems to identify whether computer, instrument, network or process related.
Ability to understand / support complex operation with sophisticated machinery and technically challenging process
Ability to communicate with impact (both written & oral)
Good interpersonal skills to foster productive and collaborative relationships with internal & external customers, vendors, operations, mechanical and technical personnel.
Must be self-motivated and have attention to detail.
