Job Responsibilities
The Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office (RFA) is seeking applicants for an IT Consultant with a desire to develop and expand their UNIX/Linux, VMware, and network experience. This is an opportunity to work with an exciting and diverse state agency coordinating technical activities and providing support in the administration of UNIX/Linux, VMware, and Windows networking, firewalls, and storage systems. Under limited supervision of the CIO you will work with the Linux Systems Engineer to provide critical services in support of the RFA’s mission to provide independent research, analysis, and resources to their customers.

Job Responsibilities include:
Provides administration of the UNIX/Linux system
Provides Linux support for agency staff
Analyzes and troubleshoots issues related to connectivity and access to data
Documents and maintains work in compliance with state information security policies
Provides administration of the UNIX/Linux and Windows environment for the SAS user groups
Upgrades operating systems and related patches and solves office user issues related to connectivity and access to data
Maintains the SAS Software Depot
Assists in the administration of the VMware hardware/software environment including the network, SANS hardware as well as updates and upgrades
Installs, configures, manages, troubleshoots, and repairs network devices such as printers, workstations, servers, Firewalls, telephones, and switches
Monitors network resources to detect and resolve issues
Maintains accurate documentation of network resources (printers, workstations, and servers, switches) to include IP addresses, OS, patch level, warranties, and service tags
Ensures that the system, network, and user security are in compliance and accordance with federal HIPAA regulations, state InfoSec policies, and agency standards
Creates and updates documents and procedures for server-based systems, networks and data flow/access for agency compliance with state InfoSec policies
Documents changes and creates any supporting documentation required to meet the above federal/state/agency requirements
Participates in agency meetings to include Change Control Board meetings and makes recommendations as necessary
Provides support for applications (SAS, PHP, ESRI, etc…) used by the RFA staff
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree and experience in automated information or communication system design, installation, operation, and repair
An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis
Experience in IT problem management methods and practices and new and innovative customer support methods and technologies
The ability to communicate effectively both written and orally with non-technical users in a customer service environment
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
This position includes routine driving and may fall under state routine driver requirements.
Ability to work some evenings/weekends.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, assembly and move equipment, and maneuver in and around stacked computer equipment
Technical training in relevant technologies is required as determined by management
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred skills or the ability to learn;
Knowledge of Networking and Firewall configuration
Knowledge of Windows servers and desktop operating systems like Windows 10
Knowledge of virtual server environments like VMWare / vSphere as well as Storage Area Networks
