Job Responsibilities

General Responsibility: Serve as an IT Services Specialist II in SLED's IT – Computer Operations department to ensure an effective resolution to technical problems experienced by users, computers, or networks connecting to the SLED network to obtain law enforcement information. Team member will also be responsible for the monitoring, diagnosing, identifying, documenting, and resolving problems affecting network performance and availability. Provide tier 1 and tier 2 technical support to users accessing the Law Enforcement Message Switch (LEMS).

Specific Duties: Troubleshoot and diagnose network or connectivity issues affecting the LEMSJX switch or agencies connection to the switch. Coordinate and communicate with third party such as FBI-NCIC vendors, DTO, NLETS, and DMV on repairs to their network, hardware, or software issues that may be affecting the LEMSJX switch environment. Monitor and take action on any abnormalities detected in the message queue bank that would affect performance or availability of the LEMSJX switch.

Provide 24/7 assistance in troubleshooting and resolving LAN, WAN, VPN, Internet, and other connectivity issues encountered by the law enforcement community or ligitimate 3rd party connecting to the SLED network.

Monitor, analyze, resolve, and report incidents with any internal SLED system noting errors, hardware failures, or application software/program failures. These systems include NCIC application services offered by SLED such as LEMS.Web and Datamax; Report network security issues to SLED IT Director, SLED Security Officer, and Operations Manager.

Provide support to users accessing the LEMS network. This support may include diagnosing and resolving user access account or access controls issues, answering questions, teaching or instructing users on functionality, or communicating policies.

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the mainframe to ensure accessibility and availability. This includes analyzing queries, error messages, malfunction alerts, and stops; Plan, organize, and coordinate the daily schedules for backups and other batch processing jobs; Maintain the tape library system. Minimum and Additional Requirements

Must have an Associate's degree and one (1) year experience working with users and networks in a technical environment; or a high school diploma and three (3) years' experience working with users and networks in a technical environment.

Must have hands on experience in diagnosing and resolving basic LAN/WAN connectivity issues; knowledge of technical troubleshooting techniques such as PING, TRACETROUTE, and NSLOOK; effective analytical and problem solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication; excellent interpersonal skills.

Must be willing to work as a member of a team to ensure the proper operating and availability of the LEMS systems and information. The team is also responsible for assisting users and devices with connectivity issues.
