SC Department of Public Safety Network Administrator I - Security in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities General Responsibility: Serve as a Network Administrator I in the SC Law Enforcement Division's Office of Information Technology & Security. Specific Duties: Maintain CISCO and all other network/security components with firmware, IOS and other upgrades for the continued network service on the SLED infrastructure. Review hardware/software to keep components operational, secure and under maintenance. This includes routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls, IPS, VoIP, and centralized wireless AP's and the components located on all SLED campuses around the State. Maintain firewall, virtual private network, web, and email security programs, protocols, and security. Maintain physical and code environment to protect servers, switches, and entire information technology (IT) system while balancing overall load. Serve as network team liaison for the SLED Server, Security, Application Development and Desktop Departments. To access infrastructure needs and requirements as pertains to IT projects for maintaining security compliance, network capabilities and policy standards. Communicate requests and recommendations for these departments to the Network/Security manager for review and approval. Monitor and log security concerns and incidents, and generate reports and track performance. Serve as network team's technical security member by researching, reviewing and recommending policy strategies to the Network/Security manager as it relates to the security of the SLED infrastructure for the network hardware topology changes, Active Directory processes, DHCP standards, DNS policies, encryption standards, advance authentication and other IT areas such as VoIP, VMWARE, IPS, IDS, and DMZ design. Make recommendations for improvements following industry standards and law enforcement information exchange policies, report compliance issues and assist with maintaining and developing policies for the network infrastructure. Prepare and guide audits on various components from a technology and policy perspective with the various technical components at SLED. Position requires some travel, including overnight travel, on-call duty plus after hours and weekend work required. Must be able to lift 15-20 pounds. Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field and experience in information system network and security infrastructure design, installation, operation, repair, and maintenance. Experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degrees on a year-to-year basis. This experience must include technical support for a large complex network with a focus on security and performance Must have experience installing, configuring, and maintaining CISCO network/security hardware/software to include switches, firewalls, routers, IPS, VPN, Wireless, and VoIP. Position requires a strong working knowledge of network security procedures, tools, and hardware solutions. Should have a working knowledge of Windows Server software, Active Directory-structures, DNS, DHCP and general communication protocols. Knowledge of best practices for secure operation in networking trends for a complex environment. Ability to provide reports and suggest actions to diverse teams on security issues, network needs.
