SC Department of Public Safety Security Specialist III-BRRC (Control Room) in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Under limited supervision of the Unit Manager, performs his/her duties in accordance with the control room operating procedures. Verifies physical count with the unit. Ensures that all juvenile movement incidents are recorded from each POD/Wing during the shift by using either black ink (routine) or red for incidents that occurred on the POD, movement (medical, court, etc.). Inventories keys and all equipment (mechanical restraints, radios, waist belts, etc.) for accountability. Receives a briefing from the outgoing control officers as to what has happened during his/her shift. This includes but not limited to incidents on the PODs, any movement of juveniles outside the facility and incoming juveniles, etc. Logs all pertinent information into the logbook. By entering the juveniles full name, JJMS number and assignment at the time of arrival. Monitors camera, phone, intercom/control system and movement of staff and juveniles. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirement: A high school diploma and experience in fire prevention, safety or security activities.

Agency Requirement: A high school diploma and experience in fire prevention, safety or security services.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the practices and techniques of safety, security and fire protection. Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations. Ability to adjust to fluctuating situations. Ability to investigate accidents, disturbances and violations. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the general public. Limited supervision by the Unit Manager of the dorm. Must be able to work any shift and stay over if necessary. Work in locked quarters, be able to bend over, lift 50+ lbs, must be mobile and must be able to work around juveniles without restrictions. This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation or recapture of juveniles within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with juveniles within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
